This might a good time to discuss "interesting" or little known drummers that are worth noting.

I just saw a guy named Dave Owen (might have been the drummer with LA's Lion King show) playing with Matthew Von Doran (guitarist from the Mike Stern school) and he was great. A very light touch that seemed to display a combination (I have to categorize here to communicate) of Vinnie & Gadd in a combined whole of musical phrasing. I was with my Virgil buddy and he didn't see why I thought Dave was so great. Maybe I am making a statement here, but I think Dave's drumming musically superior to what Virgil does with CAB. Yes, it is different drumming, but Dave's stuff was just so mature. Also, I don't think I've ever heard a pair of Zildjians sound as good as when I saw Vinnie with the Jazz Ministry a few years ago. A perfect balance of flavor!

Ok, I'll go out on a limb...

The site almost reminds me of the WFD/Girl's Gone Wild/Amazing Lesko Info-mercial thing...you know, where theyre looking for that spayshul flashy gimmick to catch the av browsers' eye...the pics w the silly faces, w the cool shades, hats/caps, & SE-Grins...a li'l cheesy, perhaps? But that seems to be what it's going for...

The guy is not bad...he def has his good moments, but then seems to fall back on...how shall i say...drum cliches [or "'hey-lookit me-I'm a drummer!' drumming"]. His time is good & solid, altho almost a little too solid [stiff] in a few instances/moments, maybe... The solos are very "drumistic" in origin, but they do stay in the time/groove. But as drummers' go, he's not bad... you can DEF hear a huge big-band, Krupa sort-of influence...

But hey, i wish he would he put up a DRUM SOLO-or-2 [20] on his site for us common folk in da haus?!

When the band kicks in, the mp3 fades out...or it comes in right at "another drum solo's" beginning... [img]eek.gif[/img] Is he afraid someone will ask about the band[s] & take some of the spotlight?

Can you say 'gimmickery for the undescerning,' 'it's all about me,' or, 'in desperate need of an angle to give me that extra edge over...'
Just ever-so-slightly pretentious...'ya think?

Hmmmmmm, so you watch the Letterman clip and you think "this guy is a tool and can't play to save his life. He's got a crap juggling gimmick and he's ended up on Letterman even though it's clear he's not really a drummer".
Then you watch him on a gig in Arizona and you're thinking, "well the guy is probably a half decent player when he's with a band, so lets see shall we...."
How wrong we were!! This guy is simply anothwe clown to be added to the list along with Mr Verdi. I won't even begin to devote my most valueable of time to disect his stilted, abrasive playing!!

hehehe!! You know me by now Fuse. I call a spade a.... er.... spade!! Nice one Randy for posting this though as it IS interesting to see these idiots that go on tv and try to claim that they are drummers or have any genuine talent.
If my dog can lick his balls whilst begging for a bone, does that warrent air time on national tv? No it does not!! So why does the supposedly number one talk show host in the US devote 4 minutes of his show to induldge this schmuck?!?!!
